TerrAbono Fiber-Coir™ is a proprietary blend of ground-up coconut husk and pine-fiber that serves as the base of most TerrAbono potting mixes. Fiber-Coir™ is a soil-less growing media.
What is Soil-Less Growing Media? A growing media is defined as the material through which a plants roots grow and extract water & nutrients. In other words – it’s the material that you grow your plants in. Growing media is often referred to as ‘Soil’ or ‘Dirt’ because native top-soil is commonly used in most garden environments.
That’s because in nature, plants and trees grow directly from the earth and some sort of top-soil is accessible almost anywhere people live. But top-soil is only one example of growing media. There are numerous other naturally-occurring materials that can be used for growing that provide benefits over traditional top-soil.
Peat Moss, wood, bark, hay, coconut-coir, clay, sand, mulch, rice hulls, and compost are just a few examples of other materials that can be used as growing media. These materials can either be used to amend traditional top-soil or be used as a stand-alone solution.
Fiber-Coir™ contains a specific ratio of ground up coconut-coir and pinewood. Fiber-Coir™ provides a consistent base mix that is uniform in composition and promotes excellent drainage, absorption, aeration and insultation for strong roots. Additionally – Fiber-Coir™ has a very long life-cycle (can be reused) and is a 100% natural and renewable resource.
Each TerrAbono potting mix formula was created for a different garden application by combining Fiber-Coir™ with its own package of additional natural ingredients.
