“Formulated in the USA – Produced in Mexico” – What exactly does that mean?
The driving force behind the development of the TerrAbono brand was to create solutions that offer the highest possible level of product quality for the lowest possible price level.
We have been producing ’boutique’ organic and living soil mixes in the USA under the umbrella of our parent company – Good Earth Organics (GEO) since 2008. GEO products are “living soil” products that contain high levels of beneficial microbes from dozens of different organic and natural sources. GEO products are certified to be 100% organic or natural. At GEO there is highly qualified group of soil experts have been putting out some of the highest quality medium solutions for 16 years. GEO has always been able to offer the “Highest Quality” part of the equation.
However, when considering the costs associated for maintaining organic certifications, ongoing development team expenses, and the rising cost of transporting large quantities of soil products to markets further away from us – it became increasingly more difficult to compete in the “Lowest Cost” column.
The TerrAbono brand was born out the idea of being able to develop the “Highest Quality” standard that we are used to at GEO, with some new concepts to help us level out the “Lowest Cost” part of the ratio. We are pleased to say that we believe we’ve been able to bridge the gap between the 2 concepts without sacrificing much on either.
The GEO development team is the braintrust behind the new TerrAbono product lineup. All TerrAbono products have been formulated by the same USA team members who formulated, produced and marketed the GEO family of products. The same level of quality expectations exist for all TerrAbono products that have always existed for GEO products.
But in order to meet a much lower target pricepoint for TerrAbono products – it was decided that production and logisticsfor the brand would base out of Northern Mexico. We’ve worked tirelessly to indentify and procure similar high-quality natural ingredients to the ones we use in the USA. That was followed by months of lab tests on the ingredients to make sure they were clean and to appease the requirements of the USDA for our permits to import them.
We also worked tirelessly to identify a worthy production partner who embraced the same standard of high quality and cleanliness that we always have. And who would allow us to be on-site to establish and manage the quality-control aspects of a production operation. We designed and built new equipment and trained our Mexico team in person.
